About The Game:

Monkey Island is a fantastic adventure game from Lucaasarts. You play as a young wanna be pirate named Guybrush Threepwood. To become a pirate you have to perform 3 tasks to appease the pirate elders. While this is going on the Ghost Pirate LeChuck is trying to marry Governor Elaine Marley. It’s up to Guybrush to stop the evil LeChuck from completing his plans.

Why it’s a classic:

Where do I even begin? Despite the fantastic storyline the humour in this game is what makes it a classic. The game is literally laugh out loud funny. With things like insult sword fighting, giant monkey heads, ghosts, and a whole shwack of references to other lucasarts games this is one of the funniest most enjoyable adventure games of all time. If you havn’t ever checked this game out do it as soon as you can!

Platform: PC-Windows
Coming Soon to: Xbox Live Arcade

Angry-Gamers Custom Level: Download it here

About the game: Lode Runner is a classic game dating back to 1983 the idea is to collect all the gold in the level while dodging the Mad Monks that are trying to do you in. It’s got single screen puzzles that require you to think and act fast in order to outwit your enemies and reach the end. To top it all of it’s got complete 2 player co-op!

Why it’s a classic: There are older versions of this game but this is the first one I really got into. All versions of the game have a level editor that let you create your own devious puzzles and share them with friends! I remember spending hours trying to beat this game and then creating level after level to stump my friends and brother. It’s a fun action/puzzle that will have you on your toes the entire time.

Game: Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego (Deluxe)

Platform: PC-MS DOS

Screenshots:

Where to get it: Download it here

About the game: You play as a young detective and try to capture crooks by solving clues and traveling around the world in hot persuite.

Why it’s a classic: Sure it’s not the carmen sandiego for the Apple II but it’s still a classic. I chose to go with this version since this is the one I played more of having bought the home version. I remember being utterly infatuated with this game when I was in elementary school because of it’s focus on solving clues and visiting exotic locations trying to catch your perp. The thing about these games is that while the game gives you clues it’s up to you to use an encyclopedia (or the internet now which makes it far too easy IMO) to solve them. If you’re looking for a great games to help teach kids geography or just looking to kill a little time I definatly suggest checking it out!

Sunday Classics - Donald Duck’s Playground - (C64)

I’ll try and do at least one of these a week. I’m going to go back and look at some older classic games that I think are still fun today even if only for nostalgia value.

Game: Donald Duck’s Playground

Platform: Commodore 64

Donald Duck 01 Donald Duck 02

Where to get it: Play it online here

About the game: The player takes the role of Donald Duck, whose job is simply to earn as much money as possible. To do this, Donald can get himself a job in any of four different places: a greengrocer’s, a railroad, a toy shop or an airport. Each job shift lasts from one to eight minutes, as the player wants, in which time Donald has to earn as much as he can.

Donald can spend his hard-earned wages by buying various items such as ladders and swings for a playground for his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie to enjoy. Each item can be placed at a specific place on the playground. By going across the railroad, Donald can call up one of his nephews (in practice, the player character switches from Donald to his nephew), and he can then play on the playground. - (Wikipedia)

Why it’s a classic: Not to mention the suburb graphics and the addictive gameplay it was also educational teaching kids how to count and budget money. The big selling point back then was playing as your favorite duck and building a playground for you nephews. I remember spending countles hours saving up and making the absolutely best playground possible!

Sonic In BrawlI’ve dicided to ask the staff here to post a quick wrap up of what they’ve been playing the last week. With their thoughts on the game. If it’s worth picking up, renting or avoiding all together. Since I started this topic I’ll go first.

Honestly it’s been a pretty small week for me in terms of games played. I didn’t really get a chance to play some of the other stuff I wanted to (Like Mass Effect) so here’s what I did get up to:

Not sure where it originated except sometime in the mid eighties. When Pacman was at the height of his popularity this phone was produced (along with a boat load of other merchandise) and released upon the mass market.

Pacman Phone

How we got it:

Found it on ebay and just had to have it!

Is it rare/valuable:

Yes and no a phone like this in box with the instruciton manual can go for up to $150 our one would probably at best go for $30.

Super Mario 2 Wallet

Super Mario 2 Wallet 1

What this is:
It’s a wallet of Mario from  Super Mario 2 that, when angled in the right direction, shows Mario picking up a mushroom. It says (c) 1990 Nintendo of America on the tag.

Where it originated:
This wallet was avaliable through a cosmetic and accessory company called Avon in 1990. I don’t know when this specific wallet was purchased and I’m not sure if it was there where we got it, but if it had it would have originally been bought by my aunt for my cousin, who would have been 5 years old at the time.

How we got it:
Somewhere down the line it got handed down to my brother. Since he decided not to use it, I took it. He still hasn’t noticed.

Is it rare/valuble:
I would say that this wallet is probably rare considering it’s about 18 years old and was only avaliable through a company that sells things for women. (As indicated by the tag) I found it going on Ebay for about $10.
